Updating Beneficiaries for YOUR Family

TIME FOR AN UPDATE?

WHAT IS A BENEFICIARY?

A beneficiary is the person(s) or entity you designate in life insurance policies to receive your death benefit.

WHY DOES UPDATING YOUR BENEFICIARY MATTER?

If beneficiaries are not updated regularly, accounts could end up in the wrong hands, leaving the unspecified intended beneficiary with little legal recourse.
MAKE SURE TO KEEP A COPY OF ALL DOCUMENTS FOR SELF RECORDS!

CONSIDER ESTATE PLANNING:

Estate planning is the process of arranging wishes for the management and disposal of a person's estate in the event the person becomes incapacitated and/or after death.
This is done at the members expense, but highly recommended by the association

ESTATE PLANNING INCLUDES:

  • PROBATE

A legal process where a court validates the deceased person's will and/or determines that he/she died without a will. The court will appoint someone to handle the deceased assets and pay the bills owed upon death.

  • POWER OF ATTORNEY

A written authorization to represent and/or act on another's behalf in private affairs, business, or some other legal matter in the event the person becomes incapacitated and/or after death.

  • TRUSTS/WILL

A legal document that ensures assets are passed down to heirs as per your wishes.

  • ADVANCED HEALTHCARE DIRECTIVE

A legal document that explains your medical decisions and wishes, in the event you cannot make the decisions yourself. This allows your health care team and loved ones to know what kind of care you want, or who you designate to make decisions.
