Basic Adademy 190 Graduates

Shana Stewart Awarded James B. Evans Memorial Scholarship

On Aug. 22, at Grove Community Church in Riverside, the Basic Academy Class 190 graduated to a packed auditorium. Along with the graduation, RSA Vice President Randy Thomas presented a James B. Evan Memorial Scholarship award to graduate Shana Stewart.

The James B. Evans award is an RSA sponsored scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, given to a qualifying academy graduate with aspirations toward higher education.

The 55 recruits, under the motto “One Team One Fight,” were welcomed to the near capacity crowd by bagpipers and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard’s presentation of colors.

Academy Manager Lieutenant Rick Young served as Master of Ceremonies, with speeches delivered by Academy Sergeant Tony Hoxmeier and Class President Timothy Martin (RSO).

The 190th Basic Academy Class began March 11 with 69 recruits, representing the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Corona Police Department, Palm Springs Police Department, Riverside Police Department, Inyo County Sheriff’s Department and Moreno Valley College. Of the final 55 graduates, 44 are now Riverside County Deputy Sheriffs.
