Deputy Scott Faulkner Recieves James B. Evans Scholarship

Friends, family and colleagues gathered at the Grove Community Church in Riverside to celebrate with the latest generation of graduates, the 189th Basic Academy, on April 11.

Among the graduates was James B. Evans scholarship award winner Scott Faulkner. RSA President Robert Masson was on hand to award Faulkner the plaque. The James B. Evans scholarship was created by the RSA in honor of Deputy James Evans, who died in the 1980 Norco bank robbery. The award goes to an academy graduate with goals of pursuing a higher education and includes a monetary award to help with achieving those goals.

Deputy Faulkner said he plans to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice to further his career goals.

Sheriff Stan Sniff delivered the keynote address to the graduates. The Top Academic Award went to Deputy Nicholas Cantino (RSO). Top Physical Fitness went to Alejandro Gutierrez (Moreno Valley College). The Top Scenario Testing award and the CADA award went to Darren Sims (Moreno Valley College). Top Report Writing went to Officer Jason Hosch (Claremont PD). Top “Gun” In Firearms went to Evan Stavness (Moreno Valley College).
